How To Choose A Kitchen Layout?

One of the most important factors in getting your kitchen right is maintaining a functional and practical kitchen area. No matter if the kitchen is small and cramped or large and expensive, it must be made in such a manner that you can feel free while working in it. Having a modular kitchen does not only means having fancy cabinets and furniture. It also involves putting the right appliance in the right place to avoid the room getting jammed.

Even though the modular kitchen design depends on the floor plan that you have, still there are ways to optimize this space as per one's requirement. Here are the different types of kitchen layouts and why you should choose them.

Everything you need to know about modular kitchen designs

The most important factor about a modular kitchen is the space in which it is set up. No matter whether the space is big or small, you must always keep in mind the concept of the 'golden triangle'. The main aim of this working triangle is to reduce the walking space between the refrigerator, the sink and the gas stove.

Given below is a list of the four different modular kitchen ideas for layouts.

  1.          Galley/parallel Layout: The galley kitchen is a single row of units running parallel to each other. This modular kitchen design is perfect for a home that has narrow storage where the appliances are banked on the wall, leaving a small corridor to walk through in the middle. Such kitchens have a perfect amount of cooking space and optimum space for storage.
  2.      Island Layout: This is the most popular modular kitchen idea of all time since it has one part right in the center of the kitchen making it look like an island. This island part consists of the storage and the dining part which makes it look much more sociable and lets the chef communicate with the other members of the family freely.
  3.      L-shaped Layout: This is a versatile layout that is shaped in the form of the alphabet 'L'. Here, the cabinets run adjacent to the walls at right angles. This design is very popular in small kitchens due to its communication among the three areas –the cooking area, the wet zone and the refrigerator. This way, the practical necessities are very much within the reach.
  4.       U-shaped Layout: As the name suggests, this modular kitchen design has cabinets running on all three walls. You can put the cooker and the hob right in the middle while the sink and the fridge can be on either side. This completes the perfect 'U' shape. This provides the most spacious workspace for a kitchen. If you are smart enough, you can also use the internal fitting to get more of such corner cupboards.

For every kitchen layout, optimizing the workspace is very important. You must always choose the layout depending on the floor plan. A bigger workspace helps in doing the different kitchen activities very smoothly.
